Dear Son, We approach the end and a new beginning all at the same time. These are significant days. In just a few weeks you will walk across this very platform in a ceremony that marks a reality. You are graduating. You will take the next step. You will move on. To paraphrase Churchill, it is not the end, nor even the beginning of the end, but it is surely the end of the beginning for you. Practice is over. Game on.

Dear Son, Before you go I need to remind you that the inside matters most. We live in a world of misplaced priorities. We value the “outside” stuff. We’re obsessed with what we can see, measure, wear, touch, and compare. We’re infatuated with beauty, intoxicated with money, and motivated by envy. Your success in life, real success, will come largely with making sure you value the things that really matter most. And the things that really matter most can’t be held, or measured with a number, and they are often unseen. It’s the stuff inside that matters most; your character, your integrity.
